How do you know whether or not you should renew your domain name? I personally tend to think that if you’re in doubt, you should renew it. But, there is a better way. Here are fourteen questions to ask yourself to help you decide on whether your should renew your domain name or not.

Domain Names for Auction on Godaddy

Posted by: bhartzer on: August 29, 2011

I have recently posted 24 internet domain names (most are keyword rich domain names) for sale on Godaddy’s domain name auction service. These domain names are going to go to the highest bidder, with no reserve on them. There are a few pharmacy-related domain names, including DallasPharmacies.com, AirportPharmacies.com, and even AustraliaPharmacies.com. There are a few [...]

Google Quietly Acquired +.com on Domain Name Aftermarket

Posted by: bhartzer on: July 21, 2011

Google recently quietly made what I would call a “significant” domain name, plus dot com (+.com) (the plus symbol dot com). This is an IDN domain name. The problem is that +.com, aka xn--dra.com is not allowed. It’s an illegal domain name under the current IDNA2008 rules. In fact, pretty soon, that character will not [...]

Google Acquires Illegal Google Plus +.com IDN Domain Name

Posted by: bhartzer on: July 20, 2011

In an effort to protect their Google+ Plus social network, Google recently acquired +.com. The problem is that +.com, aka xn--dra.com is not allowed. It’s an illegal domain name. IDN characters are not allowed or available in the .com TLD. Google, what were you thinking when you purchased this IDN .com domain name? I hope [...]

It is not very often that you come across a situation like this. The domain name JeffBezos.com has been sold at a domain name auction and then promptly returned to its rightful owner: Jeff Bezos of Amazon.com. I recently interviewed Bob Olea, the guy who bought the JeffBezos.com domain name and returned it to Mr. [...]

3M Corporation has filed a trademark infringement and anti-cybersquatting lawsuit over domain names that appear to be similar or confusingly similar to their trademark. But in this case, it appears as if they’re suing everyone, not just the domain name owners.

Microsoft Moves Synsup Labs Domain Names

Posted by: bhartzer on: May 25, 2011

In April 2011 I first reported that Microsoft had acquired 47 domain names related to something (a brand or a company) named Synsup Labs. Those domain names had previously been pointed to the Bing.com search results. Now, the total number of domain names related to Synsup Labs that Microsoft owns is an even 50 domain [...]

Microsoft Acquires 47 SynsupLabs Domain Names

Posted by: bhartzer on: April 20, 2011

In an interesting acquisition today by Microsoft, the company acquired 47 domain names and has pointed them to the Bing.com search engine. I usually watch the list of Microsoft domain names and have not seen such a large acquisition of new domain names in a long time. Perhaps this is the indication of a new [...]

Google Working on Google Deal Advisor Service?

Posted by: bhartzer on: April 6, 2011

Overall, today Google registered 40 domain names. There are a few domain names that have piqued my interest today, including several domain names that are related to a possible Google deal advisor service, where Google may advise you on the best deals. Of course, this is only speculation on my part.

Chase Bank is mining domain name whois data in the pursuit of credit card customers. When they encounter whois privacy on a domain name, they are ignoring it and instead sending the credit card offer to the domain name’s web hosting company instead.
